Choosing A College Major Is Not An Easy Decision - 2411 Words

Deciding on a college major is not an easy decision. It is one of the biggest decisions a student will make in his or her lifetime. Majoring in business is an excellent collegiate choice for students today and those who do choose to study business often find satisfying and fulfilling careers. More students today who attend college in pursuit of an undergraduate degree are choosing to study business. In fact, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, of the more than 1.7 million bachelor s degrees awarded in 2011, more than 350,000 were degrees in business. This is impressive, but not all majors within Colleges of Business are alike. So with one big decision made – to major in business – another decision stills remains – what business focus area to pursue? There are many different areas of concentration in business, so one must consider their strengths and lifestyle goals in deciding which area of business he or she should choose. Being able to land a job after graduation is something that is an issue today and needs to be considered in selecting an area of focus within the business major. Other considerations in selecting a business major are compensation and benefits and the quality of life aspects of the jobs in which business majors will ultimately land.
